Here is an update on projects for district conference---we have our outfits made for Friday night and Carol & Michelle are working on the centerpiece for the luncheon. Appreciate all that everyone is doing for this event.

  • 2019 Conference Service Project:
    Assisting Victims of Human Tracking
The focus of our 2019 Service Project will be helping the victims of human
trafficking. One of the most important ways to help victims is to give them the
ability to get away, and stay away, from their abusers, which requires money. But
achieving a feeling of freedom and safety can start with something to help each
individual feel at home in the new environment.
Individuals and clubs can support this initiative at conference in three ways:
    (1) Donate gas cards in the amount of $10, Visa or Mastercards in the amounts of $10 to $25,
and Target or WalMart cards in the amounts of $10 to $25. These cards will be distributed to
several shelters for human trafficking victims in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
    (2) Each club is asked to donate a spice basket filled with suggested spices and cooking utensils
or other items and should be a suitable size to be a centerpiece for the Foundation breakfast and
Awards Luncheon. These baskets enable women from all over the world to enjoy a taste from
    their home countries.
Suggested items for the basket include the following herbs and spices:
Basil, Bay Leaves, Fennel, Mint, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme
Anise, Berbere, Black Pepper, Caraway Seeds, Cardamom (green), Cardamom (black), Chili
Powder, Dried Chilies, Chinese 5 Spice, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coriander, Cumin, Curry Powder,
Curry paste, Fengreek, Galanga Root, Garam Masala, Garlic, Garlic Salt, Ginger, Lebanese 7
Spice, Mustard Seed, Nutmeg, Paprika, Red Pepper Flakes, Salt and Turmeric
Set the selected spices and herbs in a decorative or creative fashion to present to the resident in
    the shelter.
    (3) Friday fun night takes a trip into Storybooks for Children. Each club is asked to pick a book
and donate a few of that book to be delivered to children in shelters in the DFW area. The fun
continues as clubs can dress as the characters from the book and dance the night away. What we
truly want to see beginning Friday night is the sharing of your “servants’ hearts” with ideas to be
exchanged among Altrusans about how to impact your community needs with projects. This
Friday night event will kick the weekend off right.
When you arrive at conference, ask the Altrusans at the registration desk where to
deliver your books and baskets or donations. Thank you in advance for your
    support.
