THE FISH REPORT
Hello Altrusans!  Hope everyone is safe and well.  I think about our members often and feel blessed that as a group we have stayed COVID 19 free.  I have finally had things in my life settle down  into my new normal.  My husband Jeff is still working his job but we have been enjoying evenings and weekends at home.  He has been busy planting a vegetable garden with squash, cucumbers and enough tomato plants to feed an army.  We have enjoyed evenings on the back porch watching the humming birds, cardinals and one blue jay.  My hope is that each of you have been able to experience some joy and the positive that this time may bring. Our Governor of Texas has opened Texas up starting May1st with a phase one.  This will allow us to figure out a way we can meet as a group ( safe and according to guidelines) for our May Business meeting.  ZOOM as been great but with my last meeting as President coming up in May I really wanted to see everyone's face and it looks like my prayers have been answered. We will find a way to make it happen so stay turned.  Tomorrow we will celebrate just a few of our  amazing Past Altrusan's of the Year.  Join us as we listen to their stories about what Altrusa means to them and their lives.  Until we meet again my friends.

ALTRUSA MOMS WORKING AND TEACHING AT HOME
Life has changed for many of us during the COVID 19.  Some of our Sister Altrusans share how their lives have changed and it is apparent  they are rocking it as employees, teachers, moms and always Altrusans

It has definitely been an adjustment working from home and teaching a 3 yr and 6 yr old! I try to include fun and creative learning experiences. We have gone on MANY nature walks, made slime, and played in shaving cream with food coloring.  We learn math through card games, shapes with hopscotch, and letters through bingo. We are also using this time to teach them life skills.

We have gotten into a routine for home schooling.  Getting the kids up early so they can get started has been a life saver.  They have each used Zoom with their class rooms and have enjoyed seeing their teachers and friends.  We have 2 laptops and an iPad so each kiddo can focus.  They are working with  Google classroom.  My 14 year old Kayla is pretty self sufficient.  My boys Wynn 9 and Karson 6 require a little more attention.  Fortunately they have been able to get through the school work pretty quickly so that we can move to fun stuff like reading and games.  We have enjoyed playing cards and board games with them.
The key for us has been to establish a routine.

ALTRUSA INTERNATIONAL
Luci Lights to Lucente Legacy

As the Altrusa year draws to a close, the Altrusa Foundation would like to make one last  push for those of you throughout District Nine to donate to its very cause.  For those of you who typically donate to the White Envelope Campaign at District Nine Conference, I would really encourage you to continue your tradition and contribute directly to the Altrusa Foundation.  Because of the pandemic, everyone’s routine of donating has been turned upside down and unfortunately, giving has suffered tremendously.  The sad thing is, that without our contributions, all Foundation program will suffer tremendously including Club 21 Grants (including the ones we have received for Camp Dreamcatcher) as well the Program Grants such as the ones we have received for the homeless and Days for Girls.   Please consider giving and there are several ways of doing so:
  1.  Donate directly to the Altrusa Foundation by going to the website, www.altrusa.org, log in, click on the Sites tab and scroll to Foundation.  You may pay by PayPal, Credit or Debt Card and please provide where you would like the money to go: Grant Program, Disaster Relief or Endowment.  You may also send a check to Altrusa International Foundation, 1 N. LaSalle Street, Suite 1955, Chicago, Il 60602.   This year, 100% of our members con-tributed to the Club 21 program but if you would like to contribute more, please do so.
                                     OR
  2.  You can write a check to the Altrusa Foundation and send it to me at 13662 Dandelion Trail, Belton, Texas 76513.  Several members have already done so, so I will be sending all of the checks I receive to the Altrusa office on May 1st.
Luci Lights are also available for purchase with all proceeds going to the Disaster Relief Fund.  These are inflatable solar lights that come with ($35 each) and without ($20 each) USB ports.  They must be bought in increments of 12, so as a club, if you would like one, please let me know and if we get enough to order we can do so.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 254-721-1806 or email me at centexluedkes@aol.com.
In the Altrusa Spirit,
Beverly

We will continue collecting Impact reports and hours for projects.  I can always add your hard work into my final reports that I send to District.  Thank you to all Altrusans who have chaired a project this year.  Because of YOU, we as a club are successful.

RONALD MCDONALD TABS
With our efforts to stay safe at home remember to keep collecting tabs.
All our Tabs were turned into Ronald McDonald house in early March the collection was a total of 13  pounds which was awesome.

Changes to our tab collection efforts and criteria:
  • Wine screw tops are not allowed. :-(  While the screw tops are soft metal the plastic rings and vinyl liner in the screw tops are not acceptable.
  • To use lids with tabs from soup cans and tuna cans the entire lid has to be all aluminum. If you can pick up a can lid w tab with a magnets then the lid is not all aluminum thus can't be collected.
Hang on Hang in and stay healthy.
Best Regards,
Cindy Black
CONNECTED & CREATIVE WELLNESS WITH PATSY

Join District Nine Altrusans in a specially designed series of chats about wellness in the wake of the Coronavirus.  As we shelter in place and prepare to face our personal and professional roles in life in a new way, we must address our personal wellness as a priority.  Our ability to cope with whatever life has in store for us will be affected by our ability to react and our state of preparedness.  Dr. Patricia J. Sulak (Patsy to many of us) will lead us in discussions about wellness in this age of distractions and information overload.

Join in the conversations each Monday for the next 12 weeks.
Time:  12:20 p.m. with a 30 minute discussion beginning at 12:30
