What is ASTRA?
What is ASTRA?
In an effort to increase opportunities for young people to positively impact their communities, Altrusa International, Inc. appointed a special youth group committee in July 1965 to identify and develop a suggested structure and name for youth groups sponsored by Altrusa Clubs. These new groups were called “ASTRA Clubs”.
For the past 60 years, ASTRA has provided students from the ages 11 to 25 a unique opportunity to use their time and talent to enrich the lives of others. This is achieved by the club working with other local civic and volunteer groups on service projects of lasting benefit and by interacting with the business, professional and civic leaders who are members of the sponsoring Altrusa Club. For the students joining an ASTRA club, they have the opportunity to form lasting friendships and share their ideas, goals and aspirations with others in their peer group. They also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills as they work on project development and club leadership.
Where are ASTRA clubs in Bell County?
There are currently 4 active ASTRA clubs sponsored by the Altrusa International of Temple – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Belton High School, Salado High School and Lake Belton High School.
