Dragoo Goes Pop
The story of “Dragoo goes Pop!”, a book written by Templeites Johnny and Lisa Walker, will be shared by Altrusa International of Temple to the Temple Independent School district kindergarten and 1st grade students in March as part of National Read Across America week. Each student will be given their own copy of the book to take home and will be encouraged to “be like Dragoo”, by a variety of lesson plans/ideas and activities* centering around how the friendly dragon saved his village and his friends. Altrusa, along with Community Partners, is providing many of the supplies associated with these lessons and activities, including a recorded interview with the Walkers and a playful song sharing the admirable characteristics of Dragoo.Authors Johnny and Lisa Walker wrote “Dragoo Goes Pop!” for their own children when they were growing up. They then decided to share the message with other children by publishing the book. The Walkers donated the books to Altrusa to present to the TISD students. So that each student would be able to participate in the presentation, the book was also translated into Spanish for the campus’ that have English as a Second Language programs.
